How to drill a carb slide on a Hawkey (with pics)
Where did the spring, jet, and needle come from? Is it all under slide? Is the slide a solid piece, and the hole has to go all the way thru it? Is it aluminum?
Sorry for the questions but I want to know exactly what I'm getting into before I start. BTW, good review/pic's!

The Jet is in the pic, but this mod does not involve the jet in any way.... Ignore it.
The spring you will see as soon as you remove the cover. It is what sits in the middle of the slide.
The needle goes through the middle hole in the slide. When you pull the slide out, you pull the needle, spring, and nylon ring out.
Yes, the slide is a solid piece.
Yes, the hole goes all the way through.
I don't think it is aluminum, it seem to have a bit of weight to it, however I am not sure the material it is made out of. (it may be aluminum, but it seems a bit heavier to me).
As for the documentation, I'm sorry it is so "quick, down and dirty". I just didn't have time to go into too much detail. I'll re-do it soon and put more explanation to the steps.
Truly, this mod is a bit intimidating, but there's nothing to it.
I have heard rumors that Polaris actually did this to the later model Hawkeye's... I'm not sure the validity of that though.

I began to look into drilling the slide, but found the air intake/breather tube for the drive belt I guess, is in the way. Am I correct in thinking the rear fender section has to be removed to allow me to remove this tube? I can't see anyother way the tube can come out.

You would be correct =(
The whole rear end had to be taken off.....
You could just force the carb to the left a little bit (it's mounted by a rubber hose), but I found it easier to take the rear end off.

Bummer.... IYO, are the performance gains really enough to warrant taking the quad apart?
