You use one of the plugs you remove to install the oil lines to plug the hole behind the cooler block. </end quote></div>

You mentioned that you use one of the plugs that is removed from the side and you re-use it under the cooler block. Is there two holes or is there only one hole under the cooler block?

If there are two holes which one gets plugged?

Thanks in advance

It's been awhile since I mounted the oil cooler up. I almost sure there was only one hole behind the cooler block. The instructions are real clear, and it is a fairly easy job.

Just a side note. My 06 runs all day long in 90 degree weather with no oil cooler. Pretty tough little engine.

Some of it starting to come back to me...I think. Don't you have to remove the threaded stud that the oil filter screws onto? I'm thinking that had to come off to get the cooler block off to get to the hole that needs plugged.

I know this is starting to sound REALLY involved, but I don't think it too much over an hour to install the cooler. It took more time to get the inner fender panel off, and get the factory oil filter off, THAT SOMEONE GORILLA ARMED ON AT THE FACTORY!! I didn't think I was ever going to get it off!!!

I really appreciate the information provided. I'm an ex-Jet Engine mechanic, so working on these machines is no big deal as long as I have a manual (which I do) and other peoples experiences.

Thanks again.

Welcome! I personally think the Hawkeye is about the perfect sized atv. Some here knock it, some love it, I'm one of them. It isn't a sport quad, wasn't designed to be, but it will go about anywhere I need/want to go. Only thing I might change is, a 350-400cc motor would be nice. AHEM... aftermarket people!!!

Read the thread about drilling the carb slide. Improves the throttle response ALOT! Easy to do. Also IMO, get the oil cooler. I gets awful hot under all that bodywork.
I agree on the Haekeye chassis, the 300 is an awesome atv. You know they put the 455cc in thrm and called thrm th 400ho, right? 2010 was the last year.
