Sportsman 500 Problem
It seems like you have a bad CDI box ,This things are like the ignition modules on cars ,they run for a wile and once they heat up they shut doun.the engine with a worn out cam will not run, because there is no air coming in or out. Wich means no combustion. Have your deler check the CDI. And yes have them check the wireing harnes.

Sportsman 500 Problem
Definetly a cdi box. Things like exhaust lobes and internal parts don't usually let go with out warning. I recommend upgrading it from the stock one. Using jumper cables, and either are just band aid ways of getting things started. If its truly fixed it should start on its own as long as you have a charge in the battery.

I had a similar problem last summer, Idleing then just quit. I changed the plug checked fuel, no spark and i figured it was a coil so i took it to the dealer.
They told me a very common problem with the 500's ,not sure if your year is included but, the spark plug wire is routed under the tank and pinches. The wire is seperate from the coil, cost me about $12.00. fine since then.

Mine turns over but won't start ( no spark at all ) Did you get a longer wire and
re-route it?
