Dealer that sold me the bike got back to me today and they passed the buck on to the dealer that is doing the service work. Said they would have to petition Polaris to extend the warranty. I just love making all these phone calls. Seems no one has the ability to make decisions anymore. I have probably paid for an extended warranty in long distance calls alone.

Sucks to have a lemon. I have a friend that had a lemon and it took a year to get the issues resolved. He was close to pulling his hair out as well.

IMHO, it is both the dealer and manufacturers responsibility to make this right. It seems neither want to buck up and take care of you. It is my opinion but I don't think you should have to be doing any of the calls to the manufacturer. You should take your bike to the dealer, they make it right and you get to ride. They should be the ones dealing with Polaris...not you. Polaris might not look after the dealer but any reputable dealer would take a hit and look after you. I'd be demanding he replace the machine or at least replacing the broken parts with new OEM ones. Don't let them fix anything, you want it all replaced with NEW parts. Was new when you bought it and still is because you can't ride it.

If it was me I'd be at the point of realizing that this machine is going to cost me big no matter which way I look at it. So if the dealer and/or OEM isn't going to look after me I would buy that extended warranty (btw is the polaris warranty transferable? or is is original owner only?) then sell it. Actually even if I kept the bike I would buy it because the next thing that you KNOW will go wrong will cost more. The warranty would also cover my conscious and help sell the quad (if you went that route. Why would I sell it? Well I would do it because the quad would haunt the back of my mind whether it is reliable, will it make the trip, will it make the hill, will it... will it.... and I couldn't live with it. As well, since nobody has looked after you and you had to get rid of the machine yourself regardless of how much I liked a particular manufacturer or dealer it would be the last time either saw another dollar from me. I'd also make sure I told everyone I knew about it and how well your dealer looked after you.

Till then I'd be hounding the heck out of my dealer. Bug them till it is right. Better them hate you and you be happy then you hate them and them be happy. The happy person is he who doesn't have to spend any money on this problem.

Good Luck.

Edit: Again it is my opinion but to me I can't stress enough, hence the edit, of how I think it should be the dealer taking care of you. If you have to go over them something is seriously wrong.

Wow, Gumbo that really stinks. I have talked to a lot of people that are experiencing problems with Polaris this year and it seems getting the run around is pretty common. I think Westslope is right in saying that the dealer should take care of you as well. My original dealer that did the work on the busted water pump has completely washed their hands of the situation and said the dealer that had it for the belt replacement and is now fixing the latest problem should be the one going to bat for me. Just more of the pass the buck mentality. Now the dealer that has had the bike since June is telling me that it still isn't repaired but they will contact Polaris and try to get the warranty extended since I have missed a good deal of the period with the bike being in the shop. This repair will eat up an entire month of my warranty period. Drives me crazy. I think I will try and trade this bike in when I get to the dealer for my vacation. Hate to lose all the extras that I put into this bike, but I don't trust it as far as I can throw it. I'll keep you guys posted on the outcome.

Finally!!!! Finally they have fixed my machine. I won't be able to pick it up for another week but they claim it runs. That's exciting after over a month of down time. Still haven't heard about Polaris agreeing to extend the warranty. I will be riding (I hope) in Hurley Wisconsin for 10 days in August. My bet is that she grenades by the second day of riding. Should be exciting. Can't really trust her to go to far from home. Been to many times towing her back to the cabin. We'll see how it goes.

Grats on being able to ride again. I am down for 6-8 weeks of not being able to ride and it is going to drive me crazy. I almost wish it was machine problems.

This is precisely why I'd dump the machine the first chance I got. Whether you sell it privately or take a small hit and trade it in on a new 08. I couldn't stand not being able to trust my quad.

Hope your 10 day ride goes well.

i have a little 90 cc sportsman, and even the little ones have so many problems, first few months were fine, i loved it, after that, things went rong, the bolts that screw in the tail pipe fell off, and the tailpipe got bent, then my batery went dead, then my engine cooler , (the plastic pipe that comes out of it) fell off, so we took that off and found out that the throttle control thing that's by the engine, well the metal piece that kept that on, fell off, so we took it in, they said that they had to take the engine apart to replace the throttle cable thing, and they said that that would cost 400 dollars, so we paid it and then found out that the battery was still bad, so we went back, they told us that they forgot to exchange it, and it would cost 100 dollars for a 5 lbs battery, so i said heck no to my dad, went to a yamaha dealer and bought one for 35 bucks, so after getting all that done, i went home to see how it was , it started up great, but a few minutes later, the tailpipe screws fell out, so we looked at it and saw that we couldn't put the screw back in because the tailpipe was bent!!! we just reajusted it and it was fine, but that all happened because of abuse aparently, the macanist said that the 90s aren't meant for that kind of abuse which all i do is do wheelies and go of jumps, time to time. but my brother has also crashed it twice into a tree going fast, so that was the problem, but all i'm saying is that my dealer is stupid, which is located in muskego WI. theres alot of other ealers and i but that there alot btter then this one.

Well guys.......the offending beast is gone. I got up to Hurley and picked up the offending machine after a month of it being in the shop. We started off down the trail to go to the Iron Horse Saloon in downtown Hurley which is around 3 miles from the dealership that had it. By the time we got there the engine was overheating and dripping bodily fluids out of it again. I called the dealer and said wtf which is not a phrase I toss around lightly. They had no idea what to say except "bring it back". I was so frustrated by the time I got it cooled down enough to ride her back to the dealership that I knew I had to get rid of her. I got back to the dealership and asked them what I could get in trade for the beast and they sharpened up thier pencils to see what they could do for me. Long story short, I gave them 8 crisp $100 bills and now have.....get this.....a brand new 2007 Polaris Stealth 800. They swapped out all of my aftermarket equipment for me and I was out the door in less than 90 minutes. The only thing I don't have is the dual exhaust which doesn't matter to me in the first place. I planned to swap out an Aaen exhaust on it once the warranty period was over anyway. I know I haven't ridden the original 800 in over a month, but I broke this one in nice and easy for the first 100 plus miles as I did with the original one and I swear this one is faster. We rode around 600 miles over the course of the week and this new machine has performed flawlessly. The original beast only had 450 miles on her and had spent well over 6 weeks in the shop with 3 different problems not including the last one. If that isn't a testament to the original machine being a lemon, I don't know what is. I am going to contact Polaris this week and see what they have to say about the situation. To date, they and my original dealer, Nielsens in Lake Villa Illinois have not been responsive at all to the problems I have incurred. I have to give the dealer in Hurley, Honda of Hurley, a tip of the hat for reacting to a problem that wasn't necessarily theirs. I will keep you all posted to the responses I get from Polaris. I doubt they will stay true to course and just tell me, "oh well". Wouldn't that be a big surprise.
