Sportsman 400,cooling fan runs a lot
I have an 01 Sportsman 400, while I am riding, fast or slow, the fan for the radiator seems to run alot. Is this normal, I was thinking on trying some engine ice coolant to see if this fixes the problem. I also noticed, the winch seems to block a lot of air from going into the rad, could this also be a problem. Just wondering if anyone else seems to have this problem.

make sure that your radiator is really clean front and back. should be able to see thru it. if its even half full of mud then it will run more as it doesnt cool as much being plugged. they do run alot when the bike is hot and its warm out side and your going slow.

If you have the smallest bit of mud in your radiator, the polaris will run hot. My big bike has been out of commission for almost a month now (continuing brake down issues) but I think when I get it back I am going to try the engine ice coolant. I have heard nothing but good things about it. Good luck.

it takes a fair amount of mud to make it over heat. the twins do run hotter and my 450 can be almost 3/4 plugged before giving heating problems. it depends if its plugged right thru or just on the front. either way clean it real good and no matter what you run in the radiator its still going to heat up if it the radiator is plugged.it would just a take a little longer is all.
