I have a 2002 Polaris 250 Trailblazer and the starter just sits the and spins. It only engages about 1 out of 100 starts. Is there an alignment type problem or do I need a new starter?

 

id say new or rebuilt starter

 

if it was out of alignment then it would catch or grind. chances are the strters going bad.

 

Is there any teeth left in the starter end wheel???...........Caper.........

 

if you can hear the starter spin when you hit the button but it wont engage it is the bendex/starter drive, it is a seperate piece that engages the flywheel and they go bad quite often, check ebay i think there like 40 bucks on there or like 80 from the stealership
if the starter does not spin when you hit the button its the starter motor itself and most likley needs to be disassembled and inspect brushes , alot of times moisture gets in there and gums them upans they just need to be cleaned and dried
