2004 polaris 500 4x4
#1
I took the 4 wheeler to the dealer and they had fixed something that messed up, but when I got it home the engine would not stay on unless I kept my hand on the gas, then when I gave it too much gas the exhaust would make a loud poping noise, I paid 400 to get it looked and fixed but when i went back up there they told me they would have to test it again and i would have to pay. I dont know much about this but if anyone can tell me anything that would be great thanks.

first question is what did you have done for work? 2nd is does it shut off when you try to take off? 3rd. do you mean is it back firing out the exhaust? if they messed w/ the throttle, they may have not set the free play gap(about 1/8 in the throttle body to make sure the override isnt kicking in. in turn it, will stop the firing of the bike then refire causing it to back fire. just a thought.

If not fuel injected sounds like idle is set bad or floats in carb set too low
Sorry had to think but if backfiring i would think its running too much gas and not enough air into carb. try running with choke on for min. backfires could be cause u on gas to keep running.. Check for fouled plug also

there was a recall on a pinched coil but they said that was good and they wanted to charge me 100 to tell me what was wrong, I think it was a sensor, starter clutch and one more thing i will get more info on it and let you know.

Hey find someplace to get service manual. all that money they charge u and nothing gets fixed is BS. can get one for less then 100$ do u fix your vehicles? if so same idea just smaller scale. but with a book at least u have a guide to help ya. I cant belive the money those places want to fix stuff and then they break other stuff in prosses. rip off artists.

I have a guy that is a certified tech who was looking at it, he took the carb. apart and cleaned it, it would start but you had to keep the gas down, once you let go of the gas it would shut off, I took it to the deal to get that pinched coil fixed but they told me it was ok and it was my starter clutch and something else, they could tell me what is was for 100, so i ordered the book for polaris from barnes and nobles is only cost 34 bucks and now we will go from there
