Default No spark

Help... I have a old Trail Boss 250 2 stroke but it has no spark. Where should I start? I started messing with it earlier today but didn't have all of the tools with me that I need so I will bring it home next week and tear into it. So where should I start?

start w/ the basics first by ruling out the kill/key switch and any wire that might be grounding it out. next i would say look at the coil and wires to see if any thing wrong there. just a start.

Ok I've finally checked everything that I can, without taking half the motor apart. I did find a melted wire (brown = ground I think) but it is not broke or damaged other than the cover. Still no spark... Here is the things I've done so far, if I missed anything please let me know. I bypassed the cdi as service manual stated and nothing, I traced for anything grounded out found burnt wire (taped and will replace) coil is at .03 ohm as manual states... checked rectifier seems fine but not sure how to check. also not sure how to check cdi.

Any help would be great

Did you try a new spark plug??? also maby your plug wire needs to be changed. Not sure if it has a push down kill switch if it does check the wirs to that and follow them down to the ignition , somtimes they have joiners along the line , they might be unpluged . That brown melted wire you talk about might be shorting out on something , id aleast replace that section or the whole thing. Good luck

I think I ready to give up.... Here is all that is shot!!! Rectifier, limiter, secondary coil, cdi and coil... All together would come to about $500 to 700 to fix. Unless I found used or cheaper parts than the dealer... Keep in mind this is a 1990 trail boss 250 and I doubt its worth fixing... It ran good before the surge but... Any ideas on if worth fixing or should I trash it?

your sure that all them are junk? if so then it would take a junk one to make it worth fixing. get more out of it parting it out on ebay maybe.

Yea pretty sure I've been multi metering it and nothing is coming up like it should... .3 ohm for coil reads 0 Can't figure out how to meter the secondary coil but the brown wire to it is fried so I assume its toast also. The rectifier has been bad since I replaced the last battery (killed a new battery in one ride) CDI is giving me no reading at all but shows a char mark on it where is connects to the 3 wire harness to the secondary coil...

Thought of parting but never done it... Thanks for the advice..
