2002 Sportsman 500 HO bogging???
Hey everyone, I am new to this site and I really need help to fix my 2002 polaris 500 HO. The engine starts perfectly. Idles Perfectly, and when you first give it gas the initial hit is normal. However, almost instantly within 2 sec when you have it pinned, all it does is bog. Its almost as if the choke was on. After picking up speed, you can maintain the speed and it runs ok. But whenever you give it gas all it does is bog really bad. Like if something is stuck or water or something. I took it apart and pulled the carb to see if I could find something but I honestly dont really know what I am looking for. Can anyone help? Has anyone ever had this same problem??? Thankyou for your answers.

when you say it bogs when you hit the throttle it doesnt cut out or back fire right? if not then you can rule the etc out. hows the air filter clean? there air box lid is on and the boot isnt off right. hows the spark plug look when you looked at it. is it all sooty and black? did you try pulling the choke on when you throttle up to see if that improved it. if it did, then its lacking gas, and if its worse then most likely running too rich.

NO, it doesn't back fire or cut off. It runs and it slowly picks up speed but bogging while doing so. The airfilter is new, lid is on. I took the carb off to look at it and didn't notice the boots were off or loose. It used to run perfectly, its weird. I spent a long time searching and reading other similar issues. Just need help narrowing this down to what it could be. Your post helps, thanks.

do you think its the carb or maybe the clutches not working correctly? you didnt mention spark plug how does that look? you made sure all your vent lines are not pinched or blocked right? jutst got to rule those out.</end quote></div>
I will check the spark plug today when I get home from work. As far as I could tell now vent lines were pinched. I do not understand how it could be the clutch though. By the way it runs and sounds I though it would be the carb for sure. The thing that opens up when you give it gas works, but my question is the other one that goes up and down (dont know name) does that need to go up and down with the throttle one too? Maybe i need to put it back on and see. Just brain storming here. Thanks for help though...

had a similar issue on my wifes 500 turned out the foam piece thats under the seat around the air intake tube rode up to high and was restricting airflow the machine stated and idled perfect and i could rev it in neutral but under load it would bog</end quote></div>
Now that is interesting....how did you figure that out. Sometimes the simple problems are the ones you overlook. I just need a little more suggestions on what to check on the carb, and then I will put it back together and see if its doing that.

Well I checked/cleaned out the carb, put a new spark plug checked and cleaned all vents and lines put it back together and it works! I can't pin point what the problem was but I think it was either a clogged jet or the spark plug. I seem to want to think that when I blew out the main jet the opening was wider. Thanks for the help guys.
