Default Gas mileage: RZR vs. Sportsman 800

I just read an article on the RZR in a May 2007 ATV Sport magazine. It said that Polaris claimed the RZR with it's 7.3 gallon tank can go 110 miles in deep sand riding and over 200 miles in ideal trail conditions.

That equates to 15 mpg for a low and 27 for a high. I just can't believe that's accurate because my Sportsman 800 can barely get 15 mpg on good trail conditions with very conservative throttle use. I get between 12 and 15 mpg. I couldn't even dream of getting 20 and Polaris says the RZR can get 27!!

My 500 never even came close to those figures. Can someone with a RZR please post what kind of fuel mileage you're getting?

Sounds pretty off to me as well. I can barely squeak 50 miles outta my tank on 800. But I'm on throttle lots. That RZR might be on trailer getting that mileage

i got 56 miles on my 800 and had .13 gallon left. and i was from idling to full throttle thru out the day. so hows a heavier bike w/ the sameengine going to get that much better? i think maybe 18 mpg would be more or a real number they would get close to if they were going slow.

Yesterday I rode with a group of 8 on some demanding trails in Utah. Speeds up to 55 mph and had an average trail speed of 18 mph (according to my gps). On/off 4 wheel drive, hi/low range and at altitudes of 10,000 feet. I filled with gas and my trip odometer read 74 miles and I had about .8 gals left. This gave me an average of 21.7 mpg. My bike has 450 miles on it now.

i also cant believe that kinda mileage 15 is also about the best i have ever got. (on my800) and that was on a long slow ride on a graded smooth country road at speeds between 20 -35

Interesting topic. I wondered about what everyone else was getting out of the 800's cuz it doesn't seem to matter how hard I ride, mine gets 15 mpg. I think the boys at Polaris must be running that thing on a dyno to get anything more than what we all seem to be experiencing. I have had 2 2007 Popo 800's this year and they both had the identical 15 mpg.

like liam 51, the best i got w/ my 06' was 16 mph w/ stock tires avg. about 30 mph. the bigger tires kill the fuel milage when you play as well. i know you guys that run in hotter temps. should pull better then us in a colder climate for sure, but i would like to know how you get well above 20 mpg when (most) on here only get around 14 to 18 mpg w/ differnt riding styles. tell us your secert so we can get it lol.

I agree, Stendori, with gas at 3.25 a gallon in northern Wisconsin I would love to know the super milage secret. Back in the day when I was doing alot of snowmobiling, gas was never a consideration. Now that I own 4 atv's and sometimes we put over 100 miles per day on them gas becomes an issue. Heck, it costs me almost $200 in gas to get my bikes up there and back.

I live in a warm climate so maybe thats the difference. I also make sure that I run atleast 87 octane fuel.

I am attending the Rocky Mtn Jamboree this week in Utah and Polaris has their trailer w/reps here, I will ask them about mileage on the RZR and report back.
