Polaris starter questions

Its the soup can sized thing behind the drive pulleys back plate, you can see it tucked behind the pull cord housing also. Do not listen to a manual to remove it,they want you to take half the bike apart.

Thanks for the info, I was able to find it pretty easy.
When I turn the key it makes a clicking sound coming from the solenoid, it is right next to the battery.
I tried tapping on the starter to get it unstock, it did not work. I am going to take my ATV apart this Friday.

Ok, so i pulled the starter off the bike, bench tested it and it was dead as a doornail. I ordered a new starter threw it back in the bike, and whala the starter is spinning.
NOW it sounds like the bendix is not engaging. But with the old starter that NEVER happened. If it was not going to start it would only click and would never spin the starter. Whenever the starter would spin the bike would turn over. Is it just terrible luck that the Starter Bendix went bad right as I was replacing the starter? Could i have damaged it when I was pulling and re-installing the starter?
Another question...since this is an ebay starter. Is it at all possible that the starter is spinning backwards? And how could i test that without destroying the bike electronics?
And one more....what is involved in replacing the Bendix?
Thanks guys.

The Bendix is very simple to change, just pull the pull start cover and there it is ready to wiggle out,no tools involved. You can,t damage the Bendix by fooling with the starter. I would guess did you push in the starter all the way into its hole, but if the two starter mounting bolts are tight the starter has to be in the right position.
There are new aftermarket Bendix drives that are $50-70& for Polaris, even our Polaris dealer stocks them and they are $200 less than a genuine Polaris one.

All,
I took off the air box and ran direct power to the starter, what did I find?
A broken eye loop on the cable that comes from the solenoid to the starter. I have no idea how it broke? It must have been done at the factory. There
is nothing near it that could have caused it to break. I replaced it with a new one and problem solved.
Thanks for help...
