atv won't start every time. when it doesnt start rt off the starter will kick in but wont turn engine over. It's like it's not engaging. I have to keep tapping the key switch. Then it will catch and start up. I put in a new battery, I had 4 new starter drives put in then finally new brush's. Same results. It just doesn't seem to engage and turn engine over. Other times it takes rt off. Any sugestions?[img]i/expressions/face-icon-small-confused.gif[/img]

 

I the starter motor just spinning? Mine did this and I would have to tap the side or bounce the ATV side to side to get it to engage. I took the pull starter off and pulled the starter bendix out and it was so rusted it would almost not move. Soaked it in lube and cleaned it up and it works great now. If you remove the pull starter get a gasket prior to removing.

Thanks for the info. It does just spin. when it was first taken apart to replace the starter drive it was all rusted up. Maybe it isn't lubicated enough.Its worth a try.
