Four Wheelers Anonymous

It seems like a good amount of the Eastern seaboard states don't really care too much for ATVs. Here in the conservative bastion known as Massachusetts they opened up a few trails in state parks that are about two hours away. Not much mile-wise. It's just as quick to go up to NH where there are towns that have opened the doors to wheelers. We can get gas, food, and parts at the trailhead or just off the trails. When the ATP shredded its belt there was a motorsports place 100 yards off the trail. Fixed and going in less than an hour. I understand Maine is like this and Vermont is getting there. But with the insurance issue it's not worth it to me. I've read posts from people in RI, NJ, CT and a couple other states where local riding is non-existent. They want you to register them but don't open up trails to ride on. That's like saying, "register your boat", but not providing launching areas. I'm not registered in my home state. If it wasn't for my wife's job and good friends, I'd have left here a long time ago.

MH,
Your right man! Here in MD, there is like only a couple Off Road Vehicle (ORV) trails
at a couple state parks. None of them are near or around the central part of the state.
I either have to go 2 hours west almost in West, VA or 2 hours east on Eastern Shore, MD.
Can't win!
As far as knowing people with land to ride on their private property, its scarce in central MD,
too much build up and FORTUNATELY, I know a friend of a friend type of deal that we can
ride on his 30 acres a couple times of year. Mixed up with the state parks and a few on the
hunting property yet another 2 hours away, is why I don't get out that often and these ATV
excursions become ALL DAY trips.
Ho hummm, but I am hooked and this addiction makes me look forward to my next ride,
hope its this weekend, I have been sick all week!

Yep, me too. I've got to get one more load of firewood. It's nice having teenage boys to help. That's Saturday, and hopefully we'll be able to go out on Monday as it's a day off up here for most of us. I love the air this time of year. It hurts a little at 25-30 mph but is nice at the lower technical places.

Well, went riding on Monday with a couple buddies and my son. Pretty cold morning and the waterholes had a 1" thick layer of ice in spots. Had to rebend the radiator guard because of the ice banging it up. You know you're a quadaholic when you dip deep into a waterhole and fill you shoe up with 33 degree water and are still having a great time.

After Monday we had a couple days up near 50 or so. It's supposed to get back down in the 40s during the day and 20s and 30s at night. I can't wait to get out on the ice once it is thick enough. I have an old ski tube that I drag behind the quad. Lot's of fun out on a wide open lake or pond.
