I have a 2003 Sportsman 600 that will not idle. It runs great but I have to keep my thumb on the gass at all times or it will kill. I turned up the idle screw but that did not help it just revs higher when I touch the gas. I looked in my manual and all it says is to see your Polaris dealer. Any help on this problem would be great. Thanks.

 

Adjust your etc switch. You probably have too much throttle freeplay. Should be an adjustment in the cable close to the throttle assy. Get your freeplay to about 1/16 in at the end of the throttle lever. Readjust your idle speed on the carb.

 

I am new to the ATV world. Is the adjustment next to the carb or the control on the handle bars?

 

follow the throttle cable from the throttle down, you'll find the adjustment right there, if that doesn't solve the problem, then check the boot from the airbox to the carburetor and from the carburetor to the engine, spray carb clean or something flammable on it and if it revs up, then one of those boots is the problem
