96 sp 500 vacum problem

Hey guys I have a 1996 500 sp, when the motor is running in neutrel and I hold the gas half throdle the motor bogs, The slide in the carb is not opening, so I put my finger in the airbox and push the slide up and then the revs out how it should. for some reason the vacum from the motor is not pulling the slide in the carb up, Anyone have a problem like this, Bad cam or valve Please help. thanks

96 500 Sportsman carb.
It looks like a butterfly carb not a slide carb ,but both would use the throttle to open up the carb and a return spring to close it. I did not know the vacuum of the engine operated any thing in the carb.[img]i/expressions/face-icon-small-confused.gif[/img]
In the above link what part are you moving by hand? Is it #35 "Valve Throttle?

I am pushing up the slide with my finger, I am sure that the slide is operated by the amount of vacuum from the motor, The carb also has a butter fly that is operated by the throttle,

The throttle cable opens the throttle plate allowing vacuum to pull on a diaphragm on the top of the slide. If the diaphragm has a cut, or loose from the slide it could be doing exactly what you are saying. Pull the carb and check the slide assy.
