I own a 1998 sportman 500. I purchased it last year. When I start the machine and it is cold I hear a rattle, or vibration from the clutch cover area. When the motor warms up the noise goes away. Does anyone know why this noise is happening. Or how I can fix it. I think it has something to do with the clutch cover, but the noise goes away once the motor is warm.

My friend at work has the same trouble!!!.........His goes away when warm also.............His clutch is hitting the plastic clutch cover and will move away when it's warmed up!!!..........He did not pull it off as of yet....But I told him it must have some wear in the clutch or the plastic cover got warped a little bit!!!....................If I get any more info I will let you know............
If you get more info let me know so I can tell him what he is in for ??..............Thanks.............Caper.......... ...

No I haven't pulled the cover off...I'll probably wait until the spring...however i did a little resarch and found out that it is a common noise with the older clutch covers...I also learned that the replacement covers are built a little bit bigger, therefore minimizing the chance of the problem reoccuring...Caper, I would suggest replacing the cover with a newer cover and hopefully this will remedy your friends problem...Thanks for your response..Let me know if you find out any new info...
