Polaris Drop Hitch ball
#1
I got a 1" drop hitch from my Polaris dealer for my 08' 800HO. I went to Advanced Auto Parts to pick up a 2" ball to put on it to tow my trailer around the yard, but it wasn't until then that I noticed the hole where you would put the ball in is beveled. Wider at the top than the bottom, and the ball won't fit through. Is there a special ball I have to use with this hitch, or do I need to buy a different 1-1/4" draw bar?
Help out a newbie??
Thanks

I would guess that they do not want you to put a 2" ball on it because that is generally for larger or heavier trailers. That is why it is only a 1 1/4" bar. You could be a step drill bit and bore it out.

***** for hitches come with different size shafts for different size tow ratings. Bigger the shaft - bigger the weight capacity - higher the rating.
Either get a different size shaft or a different size receiver. I wouldn't drill it out or modify it because it may someday end up on the back of a car towing something too heavy and it would be a PITA.
I'm guessing you could probably get a less expensive drop receiver somewhere besides a Polaris dealer (Farm store).
Another thing I have found is a system called "Convert-a-ball". It allows you to change ball sizes on the same shaft without tools. Great if you've got different size trailers.

Thanks for all the suggestions. As for the draw bar ending up on the back of a car... I don't think I'd every own a car that only had a 1-1/4" hitch on it. I currently drive an 07' 4-door Rubicon. It's cool, but a gutless wonder.
I think drilling out the hole may work, but I don't have the tools to drill a hole that large through solid steel. I would have to farm that out...

I took my bar to the local U-Haul rental place and they fixed me right up. I know that a lot of folks on this board are the "if it don't fit, make it" type people. I personally am a "get the right tool for the job" kinda guy. Guess it's the Safety Officer in me.
