Default Click?

Hi All-
Probably a dumb question, but when I put my 700 X2 in gear (any gear) as I'm reving up to go it makes a little click just before it moves (like maybe the clutch catching?). Once it starts moving "Katy Bar The Door" no problems. If I rev, it clicks, it moves, If I back off on the gas and the RPMs drop it starts all over again. Is this normal? Thanks for the help in advance!! -Bill-

I ran across this thread while doing a search for the same thing. I have the same problem as discribed by ripley 700. What is this? I have read that it could possibly be the chain in the tranny. Any opinions? Is it worth the fix, or should I ride it out?

I hope that it is okay to do this. I just wanted to bump this post one more time.

i realy don't think it is clutch it is in teh drive train eather trans or drive shaft slap somewere i. my dads pickup when he puts it in gear moves teh driveshaft a lil untill it finaly starts moving the truck. that could be what is happening i would think that over teh transe but the shifting dogs in teh trans could be warn and allowing slap.

Absolutely normal condition with all Sportsman I play with. It is slack in the drivetrain being taken up. As stated you will sometimes notice it when moving also - say idling down a hill (slack is taken up the other way), then gas on and you hear/feel it again as the slack is taken up in the forward direction. With slop in the gears and chains in the drivetrain, you will get this. It will never be tight.

I feel a lot better now that I am not the only one. I was concerned because my my wife as a 05 400 and hers don't do it. I have gotten used to it.

My quad doesn't do it but sometimes my truck makes a clunk when it coasts and I give it the gas again. It sounds like the U-joint and drive shaft will fall right off but it's okay.
