Default Oil Injection pump failure

My oil injection pump took a dive the other day out in the woods and my bike almost blew up, it may still have some problems but until i tear it down and see if the cylinder walls are all scored up or the piston has damage I wont know. But my ? is I'm gonna start mixing my gas so do I really need to remove the injection pump and install the block off kit or can I just mix my gas and leave the injection pump in place??

some have done both i have read, but they prefer to put the block off plate in. if this was on the 88' trail sounds like you alot of good years out of it before it quit. oh btw you may want to look at bearing as well since it quit and they werent getting any oil most likely heated them up real bad. just an idear.

on my 89 boss it was a pretty nasty outcome when my pump kicked the bucket
but i never got the plate i just pluged the line from the pump took the tank off
and they say go a little bigger on the main jet but works just fine at 32:1 ratio
just make sure you PLUG the pump off first and i hope you dont have to change
bearing's like stendori said but anyway goodluck

This is an old write up but I am just now getting around to riding again... I wrecked my hayabusa and haven't been able to do much. Anyway I have been searching anc searching and reading... I have come to believe there is a gear or shaft inside the pump that I am supposed to remove from the engine at the same time I am gonna disable my injection pump. Because I was running it for a lil while with the premix but now im getting rid of the oil tank and I don't want the pump to suck air and mess anything up in case it decides to work for some strange reason. Also does anyone know if the kits that RCR sells or aaen or hpd will fit an 88 TB 250. Also Do I have to yank out my trani to undo my oil injection pump?? Thanks in advance.

What can you do to prevent the oil injection pump from failing, and are there any early warning signs that it is going out? I just bought a '94 2-stroke and the shop that checked it out for me suggested going to pre-mixed fuel to avoid a complete disaster if/when the pump goes out. I'd rather not pre-mix...should I just bite the bullet and overhaul the injection system? Are there any particular parts I should be worried about?

Since you're going to pre-mix anyway you can just leave the injection hooked up and fill the tank with pre-mix. It will get a little extra shot of fuel and won't be sucking air. And I thought it was only supposed to be 40:1.

No, the pump already failed I was out riding and it failed, luckily I was right next to where we camped out and it was kewl but it scored up my piston and the bike shut off so I have been premixing it. I am use to premixing since I used to race motocross I have my ratiorite cup and everything. But I have been reading and ppl say that If you leave it on the bike It can be a disaster So I was planning on removing it today since the hurricane is here and work is canceled.
