Won't idle

Won't idle
I have a 2004.5 carburated 700 with K&N filter, Pure Polaris pipe. Jetted at purchase for my altitude (7000+ ft). Upgraded to 800 primary clutch and Team Roller secondary. The only service has been regular fluid changes. Recently I replaced the plugs and fuel filter (near fuel pump).
If I don't touch the throttle it starts and idles fine at half choke. (Cold climate, temps in teens). Once I touch the throttle it won't idle. I can ride for hours and it won't idle once the throttle has been engaged. It seems like it's going to idle fine as I let off the throttle but once I let out the last 1/16th inch (it's already down to idle speed) it dies as if a kill switch has been tripped. This applies to any choke setting. The choke does not seem to be sticking. It does seem to run too rich (by smell). I disengage the choke ASAP as it warms up.
When I cleaned the air filter there was oil in the air cleaner housing (1/4" deep puddle).
Where to go from here?
