Default hawkey problems

dose any one have a Idea what could be wrong, we bought a hawkeye in august and it has a loud banging noise coming out of the clutch area the dealer took it apart and could find nothing, it is still making the noise, now it has 15 hours on it, I pulled off the air cleaner to check it and there is about a inch of oil and gas in it, then I checked the oil and it is full but smells like gas, it is still under warranty, dose anyone have any similar problems or ideas. Thanks

dont screw around w/ it wheres its under warranty take it back. show them the air box and the oil will need to be changed by the sounds. make sure they either hear that noise or at least document it so it it blows apart you have proof it was doing it when it was under warranty. imo

i had a problem with my first hawkeye... it was running like dog poop, blowing alot of smoke, filling the airbox with oil-gas and the oil level was super high (full of fuel).. i took it back to the dealer where it sat in the shop for 2 weeks... i told my dealer i wasnt a happy camper... good thing for me he replaced the machine with a new one.. they couldent figure out what was wrong with it.... they thought it was a carb problem and they said they re-built it (didnt help)... i wish i could help more.. if its under warranty make sure the dealer takes care of the problem...

Does it sound like a hammer noise that echos , or is it a thumping noise either way its under warranty, could be that the Carb is dumping fuel into the crankcase from a float thats stuck , if that be the case then it would smoke, is it smoking ?

Sounds like a bad bearing in the clutch cover.

its not smoking, it sounds like a hammer hitting metal and the noise is not always there, but it is there alot, mainly at low speeds or in reverse, I am going to change the oil and filter and the air filter because it is full of oil, if it persist I will take it in, the dealer looked at the noise one time but could not figure it out, I had another dealer tell me this is a common noise in the Hawkey.

I bought a hawkeye in March of 07 it was @ the dealer 4x until I traded it in on my 500. If I were you I'd get it back to the dealer ASAP. Why spend more money on something that wasn't built right you just spent close to 5k, let them fix it.

clutch bearing on the cover is more than likely the problem.

relax just clean up the oil(was probably overfilled and backed out when you were on a steep incline) and adjust your idle and throttle cable to fix the clutch from making that racket.you will have to play around with how the idle screw and throttle cable effect the machine.make sure that you can get the bike in gear.you will also find with a small engine like this that you might want to check those adjustments before you ride, especially if the temperature your elevation that your riding in is different than your last ride.hawkeyes a good bike just with the small engine /carb combination it can be very sensitive.

my experience
