Timing Chain Allignment
#1
Can anyone tell me how to determine the correct positioning of the timing chain on the sprockets on both the crankshaft and the Camshaft? I had the timing chain off of the sprockets when doing some work, and now I am not 100% sure about the alignment upon re-assembly. I should have marked it beforehand....
I don't want to screw up the timing.
Thanks!

I could be wrong, but its not the positioning of the chain that matters, it the positioning of the sprokets. As long as the crankshaft and camshaft are in the proper positions, then the chain doesn't matter. Is that what you're looking for.

The chain is not marked for this purpose. There will be marks on the camshaft sprockets that need to be in a certain orientation while the cranshaft (flywheel) timing mark is a TDC. When the chain is attached and all the other marks line up properly, then the valve timing will be correct.
It might be a good idea to get yourself a service manual anyway for this and any other projects you might decide to do yourself.
