it says on the polaris pro magazine to only use polaris injection fluid in the polaris 2 stroke machines...... is that a crock? can i use redline or some other kind of oil such as blendzall in the oil injection tank? also is there any known problems with the 2000 400 4x4 models?(going to purchase one next week)

In the upper right hand corner click on the search button.

In the search words section type the word "oil." pick the last year for the time reference.

Choose the forum "Polaris" and you should find some good reading.

Using only Polaris oil? Officially Polaris endorses anything rated TCW-3. Your choices are many.

Good luck, Grasshopper.

The only problems that I know of with the 2000 400s are the tie rod ends seem to go out rather quickly, and the lower steering post bushing will wear out about the same time. Both are easily fixed, and somewhat cheap to do.

Just make sure it meets the same spec. I have heard of people just dumping in any old 2 cycle oil and having it react with the Polaris oil in there and turning it to jell-o and starving the engine for oil.

Polaris 2 stroke oil reacts BADLY to other brands of 2 stroke oil,my son dumped penzoil 2 stroke oil in my Sport 400 and really gumbed up the injection system.
I run only Polaris gold 2 stroke oil in my 2 stroke machines and have never had a problem and it is priced about the same as any other good synthetic oil.

I get my oil at Walmart for $19.50 per
gallon. It's pure synthetic and rated
TCW-III for outboards and PWCs. If it
can protect a big 6 cylinder 200 HP
outboard motor my little 45 HP single
cylinder will be just fine. Polaris
likes to help their dealers make money.
I've had no problems in 2 years. I think
it's important to run the full synthetic
because it burns so much cleaner.

Bill, do you have any idea how long it takes to burn a gallon of oil? I only use about one gallon a year, so $46 isn't that bad.

I agree, rip off! I got a gallon delivered (thought I had more than I did) out to the farm for about $30 or maybe a little more, with shipping! Try another dealer if you can.
