Default Inherited a problem

I just got a 2000 Magnum 500. It looks to be in pretty good shape. The guy I got it from thought the timing chain was off and didnt want to fix it. When I got it I looked and the chain was on. It turns out that he had just put one on and in the process lost one of the screws to the recoil starter case. When he started it up It ran for a minute, making a loud noise then died. The screw he lost had fallen behind the flywheel that was the noise he heard I assume. I cant find anything obviously wrong with the stator but the pulse coil has a nick in it. Can I get just the coil and if so do I just splice it in. I have found one site that offers the coil and the rest have it included in the stator assembly. The dealership says I cant get it seprately but I dont always believe people who are trying to sell me something expensive. Any Ideas. Thanks.
