Default 05 700efi vs 06 500ho ?

I am looking at a 04 1/2 sportsman 700 efi with over 4000 miles on it and a 06 500 ho with 1000 miles on it. I would really like to go with the 700 efi for the extra power but is the risk too great with the high miles? What kind of life expectancy should you realistically expect on a wheeler? And what would fail first, the motor or the transmission? I assume that the axle joints brakes and clutches are normal wearing parts that should be expected to fail and be replaced fairly inexpensively. Also is there a way to check for any lack of maintanence even if the owner claims that it was regularly serviced? I have heard that if the air cleaner is dirty or muddy to be leary?

How did they run and what were the prices. I could live with the 700 efi 4000 miles, if it was taken care of and the price was right. You are correct about the air cleaner . The drive train could go on for double or triple the the miles on it now, it goes back to how will it was taken care of and how well you take care of it. Will they give you any type of warranty. Well thats my 2 cents

I LIVE IN COLORADO AND I GO INTO THE MOUNTAINS WITH MY 04 PO600 (NON EFI) AND USE IT FOR PLOWING SNOW IN THE WINTER. I ALSO USE MY 08 RAPTOR 700R (WITH EFI) IN HE MOUNTAINS AND IN THE WINTER AS WELL. THE RAPTORS EFI SYSTEM WORKS SO MUCH BETTER THAN THE POLARIS NON EFI. YOU HAVE NO JETTING OR COLD START ISSUES TO DEAL WITH WITCH IN MY BOOK IS A BIG PLUS. SO TO ANSWER YOUR QUESTION I WOULD GET 700 EFI NO QUESTIONS ASKED. EFI IS WORTH ITS WEIGHT IN GOLD.

all depends onthe maintance of the bikes. i would check fluids to make sure theres been no water in them and have been changed. the 500 will be alot better on fuel then the 700 but 700 will have more power for sure. the only concern really would be fuel pump on the efi but gemerally speaking most of them are good. go by how the rims are bent and things of that nature on the condtion of the bikes is the best way to tell as it will say if they rode it hard. just some idears.

They are within $200 of each other and the 700 comes with a plow which is starting to look like a better investment. Thank you for the quick replies i am going to look at the 700 tonight the 500 is in very nice looking shape but it is -20 degrees today and i think i'll wait until tomorrow for the test drive.

WOW only 4000 miles and you think that's high miles and worn out allready!
Depends on if was maintained or not.

What about the Quadtrek atvs with over 7000 miles and not any problems!
