can someone tell me what i have to do and or take apart to replace this on my 00 400 scram. can you just take the bottom nut\bushin off and just lift the steering post up or is there more to take off or loosen. ive got a hpd kit,and after only several rides this [pos] polaris designed has already became too loose for me!! i got the kit from hpd in 98 for my 98 sport, but it never did become overly loose. i know i have to take the old one out,but i dont want to take apart what i dont have to!! thanks guys!!

You also need to take off the top mount. Remove plastic nose piece and remove 2 screws holding the top bushing on. You then will be able to slide the steering post up to clear the current POS bushing (of course after you have removed tie rod bolts). Take a chisel and hammer and remove pop rivits. Buy, borrow, steal the smallest 90 degree drill you can find. I used a friends air tool with a drill bit in it. It worked great. IF you can not find one you will have to take more stuff off until you can get a full size drill in place for drilling larger holes. Screw in new bushing rebuild and a way you go. I had (still do) trouble getting grease to go into the new bushing. It made a noise for a while but then loosened up and the noise quit.

Good luck

I've used a Dremmel tool to drill out the rivets on more than a couple of these. You also have to drill the hole out a bit, because the new bolts are a bit larger. Also, grease the last couple of inches of the steering stem before trying to put it back into the new bushing. On mine, I had to remove the handlebars, and use a piece of 2x4 on the handlebar mount, and tap it down with a hammer. The steering will probably be tight for the first couple of hours.
