Anyone change their own tires?

I've done it because around here all the shops either won't touch atv tires or charge $25.00/tire to do it. BS, so I bought one of the $50.00 tire changers at Harbor Freight Tools. Breaking the bead was still next to impossible with the machine, so I ran over the edge of the tire with my truck to break them. I have heard that running up on a board works even better, especially if you are using a car or smaller truck. You have to be careful doing it that way, but it does work. I may try the James Lucky bead breaker or something similar in the future though. The machine worked great for installing the new tires once I had it mounted well. You also really need an air compressor with a holding tank to seat the bead on the new tires. If you can find a place that will do them for $5, I would go that way though, as you will likely put a lot of sweat equity into this project any way it goes down.

Local tire shop charges 11.00 dollars to change tire. After spending an hour trying to break bead I won't even try to do them. I take them off, drop them at the store and go work on something that can make me some money. At 45.00 an hour I can't afford to spend that much time on them.

I did a set - once. I'll never do it again unless I'm forced to. I'll gladly pay the local tire shop 10 or 20 bucks to do it. Heck, last time I took them to my local Polaris dealer that I deal with and he didn't even charge me. I'm a good customer that spends money with him so he just changed them for free.

2x6 six feet long. Place it on the tire up against the lip of the rim. Drive up the board with a Truck. Bead breaks down very fast. Two tire irons make short work coming off, and a small vice grip clamped to the lip of the rim will make going on a breeze.

i would definatly take them in if u can, if its reasonable, i've never had to change any of my atv tires yet, but changed alot of other tires, my dad runs a tire shop , and they charge like 5-6 dollars a tire, atv tires do suck to change by hand , but trust me there are others that are alot tougher, even with machines

Discount or America's Tire (depending on where you live) will do them.
We also sell ATV tires and wheels I believe. Don't know how competitive we are, however. I work at Corporate and have yet to really investigate.
