Default 07 Sportsman 800 EFI Check engine light.

Hi, Everyone Im new here and this website is awsome! Very Informative! About 7 months ago I purchased an 07 Sportsman 800 EFI Deluxe model and so far love the machine! It is very powerful and capable. The reason Iam posting is because recently I have started to see randomly see the check engine light come on, It only does it every once in a while and will go off when I put the machine in a different gear. Machine is all stock with about 200 miles on it. Has had the break in service done by the dealer and I have changed the engine oil and differential oils after that also. If anyone has any ideas on why the check engine light might be on and has something I could check that would be great. Also how can I read the code to find out what it is? Thanks alot guys! All responses greatly appreciated!

Is it possible that the engine is actually HOT when this happens? Is the fan on when this happens? Check to make sure the radiator is full and the overflow bottle has the proper amount of antifreeze in it. Also make sure that the radiator is not clogged or the screen obstructed with mud or snow or weeds, etc.

If all that is okay, then maybe the 3-headlight mod had something to do with the error.

I'd start by getting the code read!

False alarm maybe. My engine check light on my truck has been on for 3 years but the truck runs perfect. If your ATV is running great you do not need a digital display to tell you that. It may just need a reset.

if its coming on because of overheating then the hot word should be flashing as well. i would read your manual as it tells you right in there how to read the codes and how to retrieve them out of the speedo w. the override button. also i thought is if the battery /charging system has alot of pull on it, it will kick the engine light on as well.

Thanks for all the replies so far. The machine has never flashed hot but I will check the radiator and overflow tank. I just read the codes and it said 25 and 26 and ofcourse I couldnt find either of them in the owners manual. Does anyone know what those codes mean? Thanks again

No 25 or 26 check the codes again! 12 is 1st and 61 at the end and whatever the problem will show in the middle.

Please forgive my earlier reply. I don't know why but I was thinking HOT when I read check engine light. Must have been too tired to understand it properly.

I wasn't aware it would flash #'s mine just blinks, 1 blink then 2 blinks for 12 and then six blinks and then 1 blink for 61.
Still I see no 25 or 26 listed in the codes.
