Winch install instructions
Does anyone have a copy of instructions I would need to install a Polaris (factory install) winch on a 2005 SPortsman 500? I am a little clueless here. I could prolly do it but I would end up taking half the ATV apart to do it and might end up burning up my winch/atv electrical system in the process.
Any help would be great. Thanks.

pretty much your bike is all prewired for the winch anyways and is pretty simple. under the right front wheel you'll see a tin plate w/ 2 screws bolted to the frame rail and that is where you can put the contacter and already has the winch wires there.you shouls have 2 cables leading to the contacter to the winch(not sure what your colors are mine i think was blue and yellow) that you need to run from the 2 bolts on the winch to the contacter.and back by the battery you'll find the battery wire covered in rubber that you just hook to the battery and run the hot wire from the switch into the pod to a hot wire(orange i think)that has a spade connector. now this is from memory w/out the insts. so hopefully yours is somewhatthe same.

Thanks guys I appreciate it.
Just curious on what I need to dismantle from the front of the ATV.
Do I need to take off the entire front cargo? How to I remove the whole front panel? I'm sure I could just start removing bolts and screws but.
I think when I install this thing I'm gonna take tons of pictures and post them up for anyone else who might be as in the dark as me.

you'll need some torques screws and a driver and sae sockets. The more you can get off and out of the way the better of you'll be. Minimum is the frnt bumper and grill. releasing the plastic rivets from the fotwells will give you better access to the winch contactor area too.

Stendori, thanks for you help. INstall went pretty smooth thanks to your instructions.
Here's what i did, step by step.
Removed Front Panel
Removed 4 bolts holding front bumper on.
REmoved Headlight cables
Installed winch with 4 bolts and ran cables over radiator and through access panel in front storage.
REattached front bumber and headlight cables.
Installed thumb switch above light switch on handlebars and ran cables down bar and into headlamp (removed 3 screws)
Reattached headlamp cover
Removed 2 screws holding right side plate on.
Found 2 lead wires wrapped in rubber that said winch wire
Removed rubber casing.
Attached Solenoid to metal plate, ran all 4 cables through rubber solenoid "cap", and attached all 4 cables (bolts were color coded)
Attached pod from thumb switch to connector from solenoid.
Reattached plate to frame using two screws.
Found orange spade and connected to line from thumb switch.
Could not find extra wire around battery.
Started up ATV and press switch, all I get is click.
Ideas?

What do you mean could not find cable around battery ?
You need this.
The wire will have a head shrink or in other words a plastic protector around it!!
There should be a wire around there not used!!!......My had a tye-rap around the protection and a factory installed crimped end under there to have ready to attetch to the POS(+) red battery post!!......Caper........
