2006 Sportsman 800 blowing fuses
#1
I have a 2006 sportsman 800 with a fuse/electrical problem. We went riding today and it blew the fuse 3 times before i gave up. I looked down in there and i did see some dirt and grime and i am sure it had gotten wet at some point during the day. When i got home i removed all the fuses and washed out the fuse block. After i finished cleaning it, i put the fuses back, cranked up the machine and it ran fine, but as soon as i pushed the gas it blew again. I pushed it in the garage and didn't mess with it anymore.
I have 2 questions
Will dirt, grime and/or water cause the fuse to blow?
If not are there any problem areas where should i begin looking?
Any suggestions would be appreciate
Thanks ahead of time for any help!

Dirt and water should not be the cause of your fuse blowing.
You have a short to ground or overload trouble.........Not sure where to direct you on the 800 but someone will chime in!!.......Caper...........What does the fuse say it is for?
Do you have a Factory repair manual?
What size fuse is it? and did you replace it with the same rating?

i think it is maybe the ecu fuse, but i am not 100% sure? it is rated at 20 amps. the first time i put a 20 amp in it, the next two i had to put in a 30 because that is all i had. ..all i know is when it blows everything dies, just like you hit the off switch. Infact i thought my off switch had been hit or gone bad the first time it happened.

I know this doesn't answer your question, but I thought it might help you in the future if this problem persists.
I'm going to order some of THESE and see how they work. Definitely will solve the problem of running out of fuses or being screwed out on the trail or in the woods.

I found a faulty spade terminal (accessorie) that a tiny "tit" of metal stuck out past the protective plastic and grounded out on the steering column in the instr. pod.

the only thing thatwill blow fuses like that is either an overload(which i doubt since it blew a bigger fuse) and a dead short. the only thing that would be active for a circuit when you push the throttle would be the tps sensor onthe throttle body. start looking for chaffing wires.
