X2 EFI Issues
I just bought two used 06 Polaris x2 500 efi and took them out this weekend and had a couple of issues.
First some background that may help some. They came from Florida (sealevel) and I live in California at about 6000 feet, since they are EFI, I don't know if any adjustments are needed. Both bikes are low milage, one w 70 miles, and the other has 130.
Problems - one with 130 miles will ocasionally stall and only restart after turned off and fuel cap removed and replaced. Did this twice on a 10 mile ride yesterday.
The second bike (70 miles)- did the same thing once, then died the second time and will not start. On the EFI when you first turn the key you can here a pump (or something) "priming" the tank. This bike now does not do this anymore, will turn over, but not start.
Is there anything I shold be checking?
Is there any "adjustment" needed for EFI models at elevation?
Any advice welcome.
Thanks,
Nik

I read that earlier, but not as close as I should have. I'll check that when I get home tonight.
Since these are my first EFI's im still learning some - is that noise when you first turn the key the system being "primed"?
Thanks again,
Nik

Not sure on the "06" model, but on the "08" 500 if you hold the starter on longer than 5 seconds it will shut off and not restart till you turn the key off and wait 10 seconds. The EFI should not need any adjustment because of altitude. You can hear the fuel pump prime when you turn the key on. Some of the trouble shooting points in the manual for failure to start are:
Out of fuel
clogged fuel filter
water in fuel
old fuel (were they left sitting)
fouled spark plug
water in crankcase
low battery

Well got home and tried the above suggestions w/ no luck. Charged battery, adjusted the throttle cable etc. There is no noise coming from the fuel pump. Any other suggestions? Noise is still coming from near the "carburetor" when turning the key off. Checked for efi codes, didn't get any.
Thanks again,
Nik

Sounds like a fuel delivery problem, hopefully not the fuel pump. I still would bet it's the filter or bad fuel. then again the way it started after unscrewing the gas cap makes me wonder about a clogged vent line. I would still do all the things I listed above and see if that fixes it. Having 70 and 130 miles on a "06" makes me think they sat with gas in them for a long time, jeez, I put 100 miles on my first weekend.
Reno is my nickname from my last name Tiscareno. Hope you figure it out.

Yes, checked for codes - none
They were bought originally in dec of 6, but yes, I'm sure they sat quite a bit. I don't think they will sit much with me. My 04 600 has just under 3000 miles, and my honda at work is 4 months old and has just over 1600 miles.
Thanks for the help! Its at least running now!
