Default Wheels - X2 versus Sportsman

Anyone know the differences for sure? Seems that the X2 have more backspace so that the quad is narrower. I was wanting to swap wheels between my two before selling the Sportsman.

They are different according to the part numbers, but the book doesn't list backspace. Why not just measure the two and see what the difference is.

I put my wheels from my sp800 deluxe on my sp700x2.....the front backspacing was identical and the rear was 1/2" wider. Keep in mind the stud bolts are shorter for steel wheels, so you may need to put in longer stud bolts for the aluminum wheels (easy fix). I hope this helps....

^ Not true. I have an 07 X2 500. I replaced the 12X6 front and 12X7 rear stock steel wheels with 12X7 aluminum all around. Stock wheels used flat lugs and aluminum wheels used fluted lugs on the same studs. I bought Vision wheels (the same company that makes the aluminum wheels for the Polaris Deluxe models). Almost all Polaris wheels have a 4/156 bolt pattern and a 4+3 offset.

Hmmmm....well all I can say is I tried the "fluted" lugs with the aluminum wheels and they did NOT work, stud bolts too short. Hence, the need to install longer stud bolts. Maybe yours already had longer bolts? If your machine came with aluminum wheels, then it would already have the longer stud bolts.

Well, I swapped them and agree with firehog. My SP 500 definitely has shorter studs than the X2. Both quads seem OK, though the SP wheels are only on by maybe 4-5 turns of the lug nuts - should be OK I think.

Yeah, that's the problem I had. When I tried to torque them down, they would just spin since the stud bolts were a little too short. I would be sure they are torqued to 90ft lb. Otherwise, you risk losing a wheel....

When I swapped my 800 Deluxe rims to my 500 H.O., the studs on the 500 were not long enough for the wider aluminum rim's mounting area. I had to replace the 500 studs with the longer studs of the 800 in order for the swap to work.

As far as the backspacing, I don't know if its the same from Sportsman to X2.

Hey sheepdog, how do you like the 14" rims? I do mostly trail and rock crawling and I'm thinking I'd be better with a taller tire on 12" wheels, but I sure like the looks of the 14's. What size terracross tire do you have on those, and did you have to use spacers?
