I have a 1994 polaris L400 2x4 and the gear only goes into high and low but it won't go into reverse.
Can anyone advise?

You are right - it is linkage related.
But it was hard to find a "sweet spot" for both hi and reverse to engage.
The reason is that the bushing that transfers from the linkage into the tranny has too much slack. (i.e. moves slightly forward and backward)
I don't see how it can be tightened up.
Can it be fixed without opening the gearbox?

when they get some age on them it starts to wear a bit and gets a little sloppy. glad it was an easy fix.
