Sportsman 700 improvements??? First lets see the 700 on the showroom floor!!! If your talking improvements on the SP as a whole, everything mentioned above is right on. I would add...stronger front end steering components, a beefier A-arm, double strength CV joints, and use a better composite body panel, too brittle in cold weather, and better fender flares for when you put on real sized tires. Adding to the wheels, put on a 12" rim in the rear, so you don't have to go shopping around for some to replace the 10" factory's.

I think a lot of you have some neat ideas for improving the Sportsman, but if they were all implemented on the new sportsman, it would cost over $10,000 to buy one. All atv manufacturers know how to make the best quad out there, they are just trying to make the best quad out there that is still affordable. One of the easist ways to reduce the weight of the machine is to use aluminum when possible. If you have ever priced aluminum, it is a lot more than mild steel. When Honda designs a new quad, it focuses on producing the most reliable machine it can. To cut corners, they cut out some of the features (ie selectable 2wd/4wd). When Polaris produces an atv, they tend to lean on the side of additional features at the cost of reliablitiy. This has to be the reason for the plastic steering stem bushings LOL. As for improvements that the Sportsman needs for the 700 twin, it would be nice if it came from the factory will a PVT snorkel high enough that water up to the gas tank would not drown the belt. I know Polaris says that fording water up to the floorboards is recommended, but they have to know that we will ignore that .

They should find a way to not let so much mud eat break pads apart. Use a better sealing belt cover. CV joints stronger. Lose weight is a must. Easier to change spark plugs. Also easier to get to the oil dipstick. Strong tow hooks on front end. I hate the current spots for towing on front. Way better cv boots and gaurds. Easier steering. A Arm suspension would be cool. No more struts! Easier access to some hidden grease zerks. Make it where you dont burn out all your lights when you pull start the atv with no battery. Support exhaust pipe better. Mine cracked at the muffler due to movement. Horn.
