polaris sportsman 500 misfiring, help
#1
I have a 2000 sportsman 500, it runs normally very well. All of a sudden when I go past mid throttle it spits and sputters like when you are in reverse without pushing the overide button. Any suggestions??

yes I have, that was something I also thought of, Thanks for the suggestion. The thing that stinks is my machine only has 900 miles on it, this is the only problem I have ever had.

I had my 01 500 HO doing the same thing last night. Thought I'd have to tear her down to fix the problem. Ended up being a piece of foam covering the air snorkel that goes up towards the gas tank. Problem solved.

Check the slack in your throttle cable, the adjustment is about 4" from the thumb throttle, adjust it so there ie about 1/8 inch of freeplay, if thats not it I'd say the carb needs cleaned, has it sat for awhile? Probably something stuck in the jets, take the bottom off the carb, remove the main and pilot jet and squirt carb cleaner through them and through all the holes in the carb. I just remove the air box and fuel lines and bring the carb back behind the gas tank to work on it, I leave the cables hooked up.

hi,try taking the blk wire off the rev limiter to make sure its not defective+limiting your timing.
