I've got 600 mi and close to 60 hrs on mine since 7 jan 08 and haven't had a complaint. I've ridden most of the machines on the market and for just plain fun, this has been the best so far (for me). Good all around midsized machine. Fuel economy is just about as good as the Hawkeye (driven the same way) and lots of snap when you want it.

Although I just picked up my 400 HO on Friday, I took some time and a lot of research on this purchase and there is one thing that became very obvious to me...although Polaris is selling the crap out of these things you don't see any complaints here or on any other forum about them! I mean not ONE! Normally if there is any hint of a problem no matter how small it is going to show up here, especially in the first model year of the bike. I have seen and heard nothing but glowing reviews of this machines build and quality. My mechanic actually steered me toward this machine knowing how happy I was with the size of the Hawkeye.
I would suggest that you take a test drive just to make sure you like the size, some have told me that they feel a bit cramped with the smaller size after being used to a full size machine

for me it is too small after driving my full size sportsmans right along but i bought it for my wife who didnt like the big heavy steering and weight so it should be just perfect w/ the same engine that was in the sp. 450. it you liked the hawkeye, you'll love this bike for sure.

just a FYI, did a couple speed runs tonight and the 400 HO w/25" Swamplites turned 61-62 mph on a smooth gravel road on a slight incline...at this speed I noticed the Swamplites pick up a little sqirm with the loose gravel so I didn't try to push it any further

Mine developed a bit of hop at 50, wheel balance, so I backed off. 60 + is not too bad.
