1997 Polaris Portsman 500
#1
Hey guys,
I have a 1997 Sportsman 500 and lately I have to hold the gear shift lever (high or low) and push the throtle to get it to stay. Once I do, it will stay in gear all day. This only hapens in the foward gears, not reverse. Is there an adjustment I could make to solve this?
Thanks!
Aaron

Yes there is an adjustment. Follow the shifter linkage to the tranny and you'll see it on the rod. Check the bushing where the shifter handle is attached to the bike as well. It might be worn out causing your problem.

That was my very first quad ever, and I had a problem shifting, too. If I remember right, I had to hold the shifter and give it a little gas to pop it in. The rods just needed adjustment. Probably after I rolled the quad over.
