Just got back from a five day ride in the mountains of WV..We rode approx 450 miles..On the second day a stick went through a Sportsman 500 oil tank..This rider was finished for the week..We had snow, thunderstorms and 80 degree weather..The last day coming in to the lodge the right front caliper stuck on my atv and wiped out brake pads..Dropped off at dealer and is being replaced by warrenty..Overall we had a great ride..There were 15 atv's on the ride...Saw a lot of deer,a couple bear and several turkeys..

Where you riding that you got the chance to see bear? I been riding for over 40yrs and have not been lucky enough to come up on a bear, Ive seen everything else Maine has to offer while riding but no bear-only when baiting them for hunting season

Sounds like fun except for the poor guy with the oil leak. I would suggest for long rides and multiple day trips to carry some extra emergency tools. From my days jeepin I learned there are mutiple ways to make repairs on the trail and keep having fun. Heck we've put together a u joints, bent tie rods, and puctured fuel tanks using bolts/washers/and rubber. Sometimes making emergancy repairs and keeping someone going is the most satisfying part of the trip. Plugging that tank and refilling it seems like it would have been a piece of cake. Anyway, just an idea for ya if you want to keep everyone having fun.

The tank was split and broken where hoses attach..We were afraid of taking out the motor..Of all the riding we have done this is a first..Makes one wonder with all the sticks crashing up under machine and the tank is really exposed....

A good ride and a cookout too. Sounds great to me.
Sometimes stuff happens. My buddy always carries a Leatherman multi-tool on his belt, 24/7, even when he's sleeping. His wife doesn't seem to mind. He has JB Weld super-duper epoxy in the quad. I hooked him up with a bunch of iron wire like they use to tie re-bar. You can twist that wire a lot before it breaks, unlike most other wire. Now he can fix almost anything, as long as he doesn't forget the duct tape. He used JB Weld to fix some part of a kid's broken quad engine. I think it was a stripped out hole for the cylinder base stud. I can't remember exactly what it was, but he filled the hole and drilled and tapped it, and it was good as new when he was done. He did that at camp. There are some things you really don't want to fix on the trail.
