Trail Boss drive belt in water
#1
Help, folks. I have a new Trail Boss 330 and had a friend tell me that if I spent any time passing through water, the water would wet the belt and it would break, either from the wetness or the heat generated by driving while the belt dried out. Any truth to this? Or any cautions getting the belt into water?

Just be sure the belt housing is water tight. You can take out the gasket, and use a silicone sealer if you want. Also make sure the tube for the vent on the housing is sealed up too.
I've had my 325 boss in water just above the housing, and it never gave me problems.
Also, you may want to put some dielectric grease on the spark plug if you're gonna go swimming a lot.

as long as it has a good seal on it you should be fine and i wouldnt take it apart unless you have an issue (which i doubt). no you wont break your belt if it gets wet, but it will slip like crasy until it dries out.

Good point.
When you blast through it the water splashes up a lot. If it's shallow and splashes it can be worse than when it's deep and you don't splash.
I had my Trailblazer in deep enough to cover the tail light and the belt didn't get wet. And I've had water up to the rack on my Sportsmans too with no problem. As long as it doesn't make it all the way up to the snorkel I'm okay. I did splash water into it once going fast and just put in neutral and revved it up for a minute. That was during the 20 years, or whatever it was, that they didn't even put drainplugs in.
