Moose today!
#1
Went for a 6 hour rip today and saw the *** end of a moose leaving the trail. I'm in eastern Ontario and only saw 1 other around here in my life. It was pretty freaky. I have this thing about bears, never even considered a moose. I've seen plenty in and around the Algonquin Park area but I was always in a vehicle. I didnt even know they were around here.
Good thing I was driving a Polaris to make my quick escape!!
IF a moose and a sportsman had a head to head collision who would win?

I was talking to a kid one time who TOTALLED his grandpa's Sportsman 500 hitting a deer. He was going fast, but if a little whitetail did that, a moose collision would kill you at the same speed. You lose, no question about it.

I witnessed a bull charge a guy on a motorcycle about 10 years ago...driving south towards duluth MN, 65 MPH...2 motorcylces in front of me. Corner of my eye caught a big bull come out of the swamp full speed and charge the motorcycle. Hit him broadside at 65mph. The driver survived but only after a month in a comma. One of the worst things I've EVER seen!! When the bull hit the guy all it did was stumbled a few steps and ran off into the swamp. DNR found it dead a while later.
About the only thing more dangerous than a bull in the fall is a cow in the spring with a calf. I've been treed by a cow/calf up in the BWCA! Canoe on my shoulders portaging, heard BREATHING! I knew instantly what it was...peeked under the canoe to see 8 legs about ten yards off to my left. Set the canoe down "slowly", saw her hair standing on end, she made a move for me...I was up that pine tree that just happened to be right next to me in seconds. She stayed around for about 5 minutes, felt like an hour, until my dad came down the trail and spooked her with the old trusty .454 casull!!
I've had other encounters with them in the BWCA, but that one was special.
