Default Hawkey Roller swap: 14 to 12 gm rollers

It is torked to 185 ft. lb. and set with blue Loctite from the factory so it can be a bit stuborn...Put the impact at it's highest setting, and the sudden burst of the impact should break it loose even though it wants to turn, it may take a few tries...also, make sure you are loosening the nut!</end quote></div>

Is it lefty loosey, righty tighty?

Default Hawkey Roller swap: 14 to 12 gm rollers

Wow...I can't believe I'm struggling with this....here is the up-date and I still need advice...

I didn't actually try it again until tonight. I can't get the clutch nut to turn....not even a bit.

My impact wrench is rated up to 250lb torque. The air compressor is huge....there is definitely no problem there. So...is this nut torqued higher than 250lb??? Maybe the loctite makes it harder to break?

This is really irritating to be so close to the rollers! I've definitely got it on reverse and the wrench is on the highest setting. Please lend some advice....

Borrow another torque wrench! Is the belt still on? Leave the belt on and leave it in gear if it is not, that may help some???? I had to let my impact hammer on it for a few seconds.

Dittos! My impact hammered on it for awhile before the nut came loose. Don't give up as I'm curious as to how the lighter weights work out!

You might try a LITTLE heat on the nut to help break the Loctite loose. Be VERY careful if you do.

Impact with a 250 torque should take it off, You will probally need to use a propane torch to heat up the nut and then hit it with the impact, Always remember the rules ---Righty tightie--lefty Loosie, it will come off make sure its in gear and make darn sure the brakes are locked then it will come off.

Finally had success with this issue. The 500lb impact hammer did the job. Not sure why the 250lb wasn't sufficient. Oh well.

It was raining REALLY hard yesterday afternoon so I couldn't do any good test driving. I'll report back with 0-35mph times (with a pre-modification comparison as well).

Amazing results! Thanks to everyone for the help. Here is the times I promised:

Pre-Modification: 0-38 mph 11.2 seconds
Now: 0-38 mph 8.1 seconds

Also....that doesn't begin to describe the extra low end power I'm getting. I took it on a hill that I usually struggle with. This thing took it so fast I had to let off the accelerator twice.

Very cheap and fast mod.

My Hawkeye has 24inch Swamp Fox tires which is what started this whole adventure. I would highly recommend a similar config.
