Default Hawkey Roller swap: 14 to 12 gm rollers

Quick question....

My 12gm rollers that I ordered just arrived. Hopefully I can swap out the existing 14gm rollers tomorrow night. Do I need to apply some sort of grease to these guys before pluggin them in?

Also, just watched Ricky Parker's youtube videos on pulling the clutch rollers. Great info! Keep it coming!

Dude! Why can't Polaris use a more common size for that clutch bolt? 33mm? That was stinking hard to find! 32mm seems to be the most common size out there.

Did you get them changed? Notice any difference?

33mm is 1.3 inch so there aren't any common SAE sizes that would fit in it's place either.

the guy at NAPA said it is commonly used on hub nuts for autos...sorry I can't remember and brand of car though...
Also, no lube of any kind inside the clutch housing, inspect and clean if necessary

One more note! Pay close attention to the way the 14oz roller came out, there is a wear side, (wide metal surface on side) to these and the new ones should go back in the same way the old ones came out or you will get rather fast wear on the rollers!

Ok, just started. Its pretty darn easy to get to the clutch. Took less than 30 minutes. So... next question.....and very important at that.....

How the heck do I keep the clutch from turning?!?!? Everytime I put the turn on the impact wrench, it just turns the entire clutch instead of loosening the bolt.

Sorry, I know its probably something simple....I obviosly don't do that much mechanic stuff. I tried putting it in Drive, Reverse, Neutral....you name it. What am I missing here?

Thanks for the help guys.

It is torked to 185 ft. lb. and set with blue Loctite from the factory so it can be a bit stuborn...Put the impact at it's highest setting, and the sudden burst of the impact should break it loose even though it wants to turn, it may take a few tries...also, make sure you are loosening the nut!
