What is the best winch for me????

To xpedition4254x4, I do like the 2-bar front bumper. I use it to push partially fallen trees out of the way. It will be for sale to since I want to buy that brush guard. I want that because in minnesota at least. I ride on allot of old logging trails. Many of them are growing over and sometimes we drive through allot of brush. Plus, the grass gets tall and we sometimes hit tree stumps or rocks. that brush guard has a piece that helps protect the rad. underneath. Not perfect but good enough. I will keep my rear 2-bar
bumper. The 2-bar bumper fits all gen iv utility atv's. question, in the 2001 polaris atv catalog, they have a new accessory that is a switch that attaches to the winch electrical system that is advertised to give the 2000lb. winch a boost to a 2500 lb. winch. I wonder if it works?
ps: I was out in the deep snow last saturday by my self. I made a 25 mile circle. I was pretty cold when I got back to my truck. I was riding quite a bit on a snowmobile track. I would go down into the powder once in a while and then climb back up.
It was fun. I am going this saturday again and so far 1 other person wants to go and maybe a second person if he gets his polaris 400 sportsmen put back together. It seems he jumped over a hill and landed down in a swamp and broke the chain and the
sprocket and something else, I forget what. I would say, that in the 2 years I have owned my xpedition 425 cc 5-speed, which I do like very much. The only complaint I have had, last winter and this winter. Is that I believe that an automatic goes in the deep snow better then a 5-speed does. You need momentum to keep it going. In 1st. or 2nd. gear I have too much power and not
much speed so can't get momentum up. In 3rd. gear to 5th. gear, there is not enough power as the deep snow will bog it down. It needs a snow gear, Ha Ha!.... I can live with it though and in the summer, I really like what it can do. It don't have 11 inches of clearance that the sp500's have but it is a great machine. rangerchet

Super duty 335 whell it is nice to no that I have some one that lives near me to talk to. Any ways I live on Will shronce rd. over by the Iron station school the rd. is beside the texaco station calle the iron station supertte. We have tons of trails and tons of mud. And if you wont to get wet we have a very deep creek almost up to to the gas tank. Give me your e-mail address and i will give you my phone number and maybe we can ride some time.
p.s. do you have any trails????
And rangerchet thanks for the info man i am defintly getting a warn 2000lb i dont know if that remote switch will boost up the winch or not.
I herd you wish you had a snow gear and 3 and up the engine will bog down. Down here in the south we dont get much snow may be 6 inches at the most.
Yes automatic is nice to have but they also have a lot more problems with auto tranni and so own.
But these xpedtions are bullet proff i have 1800 miles and know problems what so ever and i ride my quad hard. Arent you the one who put in and H.O. cam and put aftermarket exaust on too. If so did you like what it did to atv. Tell me what elese you did to your atv and did you like the changes it made. Because I might be getting a ho cam, exaust, and a few others give me some info. Thanks
Have a nice day!!!!!!

Which ever unit you purchase, the most important thing to consider in my opinion is the mounting kits that are available. The Polaris kit is nice but pricy. As for the size, yeah its cool to say "I have a 48 ton winch" but what do you really need. A one ton (2,000 lb ) unit with a snach block will do anything you'll ever need with a quad. I'd go for the nicest compact unit available. And do buy a snach block. It'll double teh puling capacity and allow connections at angles.
Good luck

I live close to the Pumpkin Center school. I have a friend that lives close to you his name is Freddie Avery. He rides a Honda 400EX and sometimes he rides a Yamaha Big Bear. He has a nice track behind his house. He lives right next to the entrance into Timken. I have a hare scramble and a few more miles of trails. Very little mud, though.

For a warn winch the best price that I was able to find was www.atvpartsdepot.com. Ordered a 2500 last week. The reason for the 2500 over the 2000 model is it included a roller fairlead. The 2000 model you would have to purchase this seperately at around $35. By the time you did you almost spent the same amount of money & so for $20 or so more you get the extra power of the 2500 & the 6' remote switch.
Good luck on your choice.

It was another xpedition 425 owner that was asking on the forum if he could use the same parts to make the engine an ho. Not me.
I have a dealership repair shop story to tell. First, on sunday I made the 25 mile circle again. Riding on top of a snowmobile track and going off into the powder when I wanted to and then climb back up on top. that was on sunday.
A few weeks ago, and I think I will stop naming the places. I went to a polaris dealership and asked about whether I could just get a different mount for my warn. 2000lb. winch that would work with polari's new brush guard. You would think that they would know what there talking about since were talking about some polaris equipment and polaris fully supports and sells and works with warner winches. They specifically told me that I could not just get a different mount. I asked them to quote me there best price for new winch, brush guard and cost to take the old off and put the new stuff on. They totaled up about 850 dollars. Well, saturday, I went to duluth, to duluth lawn and sports polaris place and talked to them instead. They told me, all I need is a different mount for my winch. So I have ordered that and the brush guard. I checked on the cost for them to replace them for me. The total bill adds up to about between 200 and 250 tops versus 850 somewhere else. That is a big difference. This
is about the 3rd. time now that I have received bad information from the other place. So I will have my new brush guard on soon and with My winch.
I believed that in the beginning but if a polaris shop says N O! then all I had to do was walk away and give my business to another shop.
ps: I bought that new polaris coffee/pop/beer cup holder and put it on. Haa!, I actually like it. I can adjust it in many positions and when its bouncy, I can take most of it off in about 5 seconds. Don't trust everything you hear at one shop or another. I am learning that it pays to ask
questions at 2 or more places. rangerchet
