Maybe I should have ordered an orange one instead of blue. They're the same price. Too late now because it's supposed to be in Thursday.

The Sportsman 300 being a machine with out an ECM or fuel Injection will and should Run even without a battery installed, being that its stator type charging machine, If its not charging its and Voltage delivery problem from the Stator System not the battery, Wrong diagnosis maybe, But I love that white SPortsman and that color on the 800 also.

Won't that burn out all the lights like on the older quads? I always heard you need to leave the battery attached whether it works or not.

A dc charging system will hold voltage in the stator until some draws it out and I think the Sportsman 300 has a 250 watt charging system so I dont think that would burn out the lights because the lights draw out what it needs.

I would have thought the 300 would have run without a battery too, but it does not.

Discovery, have to say I REALLY like the white color on the SP 300! I would have never though white would look that good!
Just to let you know, I had the same problem on both of our machines...dealer replaced the battery on the 300 with no problem and on the 400HO, I put the trickle charger on for a couple days and it has run great ever since.
Not sure if this is the same problem you are having but it did seem like the dealer simply didn't have the battery on the charger for long enough before installing it in the bike...it is fairly important to FULLY charge these little batteries for the first time!

Kinda crazy to have a ATV that can not run with a dead or bad battery, it makes the point of having a pull start useless. On mine it will run normal with a bad battery ,but I think the battery still has to be left installed even though its no longer any good. I never ran the ATV without a battery period.

I guess I was thinking the same way you were TLC, just had to have the battery to complete the circuit...

Well my bad ECM ran the cooling fan with the key out and drained my battery totally DEAD!!
I tried to pull-start the Quad (2006 Sp 450) and it did try and start but would not stay running....
So the battery was in my Quad ,But no juice left what-so-ever....And the pull start back-up was useless!!
.........Caper..................
