I have another question about the x2 is a 500 big enough motor. I heard it was the most reliable motor. Give me your review of your X2 experiences. I will be riding it a lot as a single rider too. My daughter just got married and she wants old dad to get her new husband something to ride, so I thought this would kill 2 birds with 1 stone. A legal 2 person atv for mom and dad plus have a extra one for the new son-in-law to ride when we make family trips. Thanks for your help.

This engine first came to life as a 425 magnum in 94, 500 just punched out and improved over the years.Have had farmer and ranchers use and abuse them for years, but engine basically bulletproof! (with at least decent maintenance!) Been working on Polaris since 1988 and this is my engine of choice! I just like a dry sump engine better than wet sumps. No offence to you 700/800 owners! The engine is PLENTY powerful enough, Polaris's first and only awd was the 250 2-stroke and sill alive today in the Trailblazer! I'm sure you will always get different opinions, but don't just talk to salesmen, talk to the techs if possible about reliability. Hope this helps!

I've had my 350 pounds plus a 200 pound passenger on the X2 and it has taken me and the passenger through nasty mud/waterholes, up over rock covered hills, up and down 45 degree slopes, and even pulled a 2000 lb. wood chipper up a hill covered with wet grass. By myself it's just as fun, but maybe a little stiffer of a ride. The 500 works great. I've also got an ATV trailer that is 4x4 and about 3 feet deep that I've filled with wet, freshly cut firewood. In low range it pulled it fine. If they had the 700 when I bought mine, I would have spent the extra couple hundred dollars to get the bigger engine, but I don't need it. The 500 also gets better gas mileage.

I had the same problem when I bought mine about 2 weeks ago. I ended up with the 500. I was wondering if it would have enough power. I test drove it and it suited my needs just fine.
I drive normally 35 with maybe 40 MPH every once in awhile and the 500 does this with about 1/2 to 3/4 throttle. Anything faster is just asking for trouble around where I live and alot of riding is done at about 20 mph on the trails.
I don't need faster take offs or the higher top end. I can't see how the 500 wouldn't be enough engine to plow snow or pull a deer/bear out of the woods.
Not to mention that I have been getting over 20 MPG with my machine. I am very happy with the 500 and don't regret buying it.
Might want to go to a dealer and test drive each one and see which one is right for you.

Hi. i'm a new 2008 Polaris 700 X2 owner. i can only suggest what i have experience and that is a lot of power. 500's, i'm sure are powerful enough, but i do spend a lot of time with passenger's on my quad. i like the extra power of shooting out of a trail, going up hill (with power), or even hitting small jumps (always being very safe with protective gear). a small wheelie ever now and then is also fun.
I guess, it depends on how you want to use your Polaris. i did a lot of research before my purchase, and i believe the 700 to be the best 2 up quad on the market.

I just got a new 08' 800 X2, I was sure that the 500 would have done most of what I needed. I test road a buddy's 500 X2 for an hour or so a few weeks prior, it seemed to have plenty of power, however the 500 does like to cruise at 30-35 mph tops, when we got to going on some fire roads it seemed to start to tax the 500 a little at the higher speeds. I ride a lot in high elivations in Coloarado durring the summer months, and just wanted to know I had planty of power on tap for the mountains, and I just like twins over singles. I will point out that the twins do not have backup pull starters like the 500s. So if you think pull starting it might be in your future then the 500 is your only choice.
Here is a pic or 2, of my new Stealth 800 X2.
