2002 polaris 325 trail boss transmission maybe weird sound
Background: one of my buddys has a 02 polaris 325 i think its a trail boss. pretty crappy but acting a lil wierd lately. he bought it used never serviced it ever is airbox has lots of dryed mud in it and its jus crappy i tell him he needs to do a full service and cleaning and he is finally thinking bout doing it.
the other day he was riding and it jus lost the peppiness it had before and was making a wierd sound sometimes when you first touch the throttle sort of like a knock or a clank sorta like taking a wrench that has been hit on the ground but not resenating. he cleaned all the mud off it and we jus rode it around a lil bit and it finally came back. i said it could possibly be the transmission engaging when you give it throttle since it only did it when it was in gear. and only when you first give it gas. im not an engine expert but forgive me if im wrong. they jus didnt want to listen it was simple take off a coulpe bolts and the cvt cover and see if that was it but they didnt anyways could i be right or could it be soumthin else.
keep in mind it only does it in gear and when you first hit the gas
thanks

i'd definitely check the clutches, if it has a lot of miles on it, then it needs the clutches rebuilt, better hurry too because to much metal on metal will ruin the clutches and there 350 bucks for the drive clutch and probably another 200 some for the driven, just replaced a primary clutch on one

Check clutch buttons to see if worn and has excessive grooves.Replace if worn or chance having to replace drive clutch. When really bad most sound like its a diesel engine when running. I've saved some, others too far worn to help! Check 3 ramp buttons in driven clutch/relace if ground down. Also if you remove clutches, check engine for rod slap, can be overshadowed by clutch noise! Have had to replace a few 325 cranks because of poor maintenance such as you have described! Also you say it makes noise when accelerating? Does it have grinding type noise? Silent chain in trans can get slack and jump gears! I've repaired a lot of damage on abused /neglected machines. Hope just maintenance and clutch buttons all you have to do. Good luck!
