IF COMPLETE rebuild needed, several special tools needed, such as clutch puller, counter balancer puller, someone to install new rod on crank and true up, cylinder boring, plus LOADS of parts! Costs as much on a 400 2-stoke as a 500 4-stroke if done right! As posted previously, rather rebuild 2 four strokes than one 400! Prepare for the unexpected, such as c/balancer bearing and gear wear. If mechanically inclined, have at it,BUT let pros do crank rebuid, cylinder boring, etc. Try to estimate total costs weighed upon value of machine after completion! On older machines I've made some customers think twice about repairing! As i have posted earlier 400 good engine, but complex to rebuild.

I had mine quoted a few years ago for about $300 with out parts (top end) but after all the mods and parts it cost about $700.

Trail ported
.040" over bore and Wiseco piston
.020" shaved head/12:1 compression
New top end rod bearing
V-force Delta 2 reeds/cage
