Stock Deluxe rims vs. ITP SS108 rims
#1
Just thought I'd throw this out there in case anyone is wondering about the differences between the Polaris stock deluxe 12" rims and the ITP SS108 14" rims.
I measured the rims the best I could while on the ATV, and this is what I found.
STOCK RIMS:
front 3.5"/2.5" offset IN/OUT
rear 5"/2" offset IN/OUT
SS108 RIMS:
front 3"/3" offset IN/OUT
rear 4"/4" offset IN/OUT
I took pictures to show the clearance between the tie rod and the tire/rim on the 500 with stock Deluxe rim and tire (26x8-12), and the 800 with SS108 rim Terracross Radial (26x8-14). The pics show about 0.5" clearance stock, and about 1" clearance with ITP. A 9" wide tire might rub the tie rod with the stock backspacing, where they probably wouldn't rub with the ITP backspacing.

I also took pics of the rear tires, which show the difference in backspacing. The ITP rim sits out farther, you can see more of the A arms compared to the 500 pic.

Here are pics of the fenderlines of both 500 and 800. You can see how the ITP rims make the tires sit out farther from the fenderline. The whole circumfrence of the Terracross tires sit past the fenderline, compared to the stock tires, which sit mostly under the fenders. Riding the 500 and 800 in the same conditions; mud, water, etc., the rider and ATV will be a lot cleaner with the stock offset compared to the ITP offset. Having the tires stick one to two inches past the fenderline tends to throw everything you're riding through up in the air, mostly upward and backwards.

These pics show how much more clearance is provided on the inside of the rim. The 12" rim hugs the brake caliper, where the 14" rim has plenty of clearance. Its really easy to clean the inside of the 14" rims compared to the 12" rim.

as laways nice presentation, and pics. its what ive been saying right along about stock rims and and 9" wide front tires as they might rub and that picture pretty much tells the story.

I should have put my finger in the gap to show exactly how close it is. Maybe I'll take another pic tomorrow.</end quote></div>
ha i know how close it is lol thats why im pretty sure they would rub.

Using a spark plug to fill the gap, these pics better illustrate just how little clearance there is between the stock rim wth 8" wide tire and the tie rod end. The ITP rim with 8" wide tire has more than twice the clearance, more than enough to fit a 9" wide front tire without worry of rubbing the tie rod end.
