Fan Keeps Running

Fan Keeps Running
Gid'day Lads,
Can anyone tell me if my fan running for about 10 minutes everytime I turn the bike off is normal? I get into the habit of turning the key on to let it cool down if it needs to. Wether I'm moving slow through the bush or rippin' on a road somewhere it will run for a long time compared to other bikes. I know the fan is mounted low compared to other models. Was thinking the fan running was just a safety thing, so even if the engine is cooled down the fan will keep going just to get it even cooler.
If ya's don't mind, could you guys maybe turn your key on after running it a bit to see how long your fan keeps going .... if it even keeps running at all? Thanks.

if the fan was running before you turn the bike off and then turn the key back on then yes its normal to have the fan run until it reaches below fan required temp. if the fan it stil running w/ the key in the off pos. then no thats not correct. i do the same thing sometimes if i turn the bike off while the fan is cycling then i might turn it back on to finsh its cooling.

With the engine off but the key on, and therefore the fan sometimes, the coolant isn't circualting so the only coolant getting cooled is basically what is in the radiator. I haven't looked, but depending on where the temp switch is it might take quite awhile to cool down the coolant around the switch with the engine off and the coolant not circulating. Coolant actually gets hotter after the engine is shut down,as it continues to pull heat out if the engine for awhile. So in theory you could probably turn off the engine with the fan off, then turn back on the key and the fan may come on severalminutes later as the coolant heats up, again this will depend on where the switch is. But like stendori said, it should not run with the key off. Ok, is that clear as mud? lol

As Stendori said.....If the Quad 's fan is running when the key is off.......There is a problem..........My did and yes it was a bad ECM..........I do the same sometimes when the key is turned off the fan will run with the key ahead .......This is normal as the temp is still high enough to cycle the fan.....Caper.......

Sure seems odd that it would run that hot all of the time.</end quote></div>
Thats the point I'm trying to make. Against all other manufacturer's mine run longer, a lot longer. I'm thinking its just my bike doing it.

It will run longer when the quad is off..........As posted here the coolant is not in cycle..........So the fan is cooling the antifreeze in the rad..........But that cool antifreeze is not being sent to the engine when the Quad is shut off..........so in return the fan will run longer as it is being told the motor is at temp to turn the fan on.............Caper..........

The only thing I can think off is to make sure that you have no intake leaks on the fuel injection system and if possible make sure your fuel pump is supplying enough pressure to your fuel injection system other than that I would look at your cooling system make sure your thermostat is opening properly or if they have a lower temp thermostat for your bike. flush the system and maybe run some engine ice in your radiator just make sure you get all of the water out of your bike befor you add this stuff. Also if you ever boil your radiator over on most coolants they loose thier cooling properties so if this happened definantly change it out.
Hope this helps good luck.
