2006 Sportsman 500 EFI Value?
#1
Hiya Folks,
First time ATV purchaser. Having done a bit of research and based on my needs, I think this 2006 Sportsman 500 with EFI might just fit the bill. I'd be using it largely for hauling wood, plowing my cabin's drive, and a bit of fun on the trails. I've considered the larger displacement versions and while I'd love to have one, I think the price of this one might be better for me. They're asking $5000. It has 13 hours and 89 miles on it. Has the Mossy Oak color (looks like Camo to me), 2500 lb. winch, and seat cushion/rear packs (not sure if those are an option or came standard). They say they are willing to deal. What's the going rate for a 2006 Sportsman 500 EFI these days? Also, are there any "gotchas" with the 2006 models? Thanks for any advice on this deal or this version/year of atv.
Cheers,
Dublin

I have a 06 500 X-2, I got it on 12-4-06 and have over 2000 miles on it so far. I have had no problems with mine and I use it to plow the fields, Haul firewood and to keep the trails clear around the neighborhood. It don't mind gettin wet and it likes the snow. I like mine so much that we went out and got the wife a 08 300, The Wife is on the right.

Go buy a new '08, I have an 06 500 EFI and it has had overheating (hot light) problems since it was new, and the rattling noise from the motor is awful (I think it's set too lean). After another frustrating weekend I need to dig in and figure out what can be done to help it.
For an extra $1,000 on an '08 you'd get the awesome descent control, and the knowledge that it had no hidden problems or abuse.
In my book ATV's are like underwear, I don't want to be the second one to own it.
